Multiple cameras active freezes PC
I have the Security Eyes PV140VPROA software/video card. I installed this on a PC about a year ago and it worked fine except for an occasional loss of video (would turn blue but still record ok) that would require the software to be shut down and restarted to activate again. This using the drivers from the disk (not Microsoft drivers). Anyway, I just put together a new PC which consists of the following:
Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo4-F chip set NVIDIA nForce4 Standard
VGA: e-GeForce 7300GT PCIe 512MDDR with the latest drivers from them 6.14.10.9371
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Dual Core. Think it's 2GHZ per processor.
RAM: 1.5GDDR PC3200 400Mhz

The Old PC had an AMD Thunderbird CPU 1.8Ghz, 1G Sdram, 64M DDR APG Gforce VGA (model MX 440 SE).

After this was done I've discovered I cannot have more than 1 camera active at any one time. If I activate 2 cameras the entire PC will freeze up after several seconds. If I turn on the 3rd camera it'll freeze just about immediately. It does not matter what port on the card. I've tried different PCI slots with no change. I've updated all my drivers and the drivers I'm using on the BT878 card is Ado Security 2.0.1.0 from July 2005. The info off the security eyes box I got is D-300-A Security Eyes 4-channel 30fps DVR card & the info off the install disk: PV-140VPro V2.518.

I've done indepth memory tests to make sure my ram is ok. I've had Task Manager running and the CPU is at 2% when it hangs. No load on the PC at all. I don't have any other issues until I activate a 2nd camera. I'm out of ideas and cannot find any newer drivers than what I had on the install disk.

Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Multiple cameras active freezes PC

mototoad,

Thank you for your inquiry and the information.

One other question that we do not see addressed in your post:  What OS version are you running.  (Please Right-Click on My Computer and Select Properties - then type in the Full OS information that is presented there).

Also - How many PCI slots are there on the motherboard that you are using?

Thank you

Re: Multiple cameras active freezes PC
Sorry about that... I'm running XP Pro version 2002 SP2

I have 4 PCI slots. One has the video card, another a Firewire card and that's it. One of the PCI slots also works as a "communications" slot and it's orange. Not so sure what that ones about so it's empty. I also have a PCIe x4 slot which is empty and the graphics card is in a PCIe x16 slot.

Here's a link to the MB: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4-F&class=mb

Thanks,
James

Re: Multiple cameras active freezes PC

James,

Is your video card a PCI or a PCIe?  You say that the Video Card is in one of the PCI slots, then you say it is in a PCIe slot...

How many of the slots are IDENTICAL to the slot that the DVR Card installs into?

Please try removing your Firewire card and any other devices in a PCI slot (identical to the DVR Card Slot) and retesting.

Also, Please let us know who is the Manufacturer of the Chipset on the motherboard (ie.  SIS, ATI, VIA, INTEL, NVIDIA, etc.)

Thank you

Re: Multiple cameras active freezes PC
The graphics card is a PCIe. The video card is in the 1st PCI slot (just below the graphics card). There are 3 identical PCI slots. The 4th PCI slot does communications cards too but I'm not to sure what that is referring to. The chipset is NVIDIA. I pasted the link to the mother board in a previous reply for reference in case I missed anything.

I'll remove the Firewire card when I get home this afternoon as it's the only other PCI card I have in it. This might be irelevant but I had the same Firewire card in the old system along with a few other PCI cards that have now been removed.

Yesterday I found a link in another post on this forum for version 3.011. I installed it to see what it would happen... the drivers supported the video portion of the BT878 card but not the audio (I don't use audio anyway). When the Security Eyes software loaded it only allowed me to have one camera. No other options for any other camera so I couldn't test to see what would happen when I turned them all on.

I've also checked my IRQ stuff and I don't have anything else sharing the IRQ's that the BT878 card is using.

Thanks,
James
