Re: I get a site called mikrotik

On the iPhone you will NOT use the web browser to connect to the server (just to clarify for other readers)...but as a test of the web page using the IP address, it definitely helps narrow it down.

With it working on the Alnet client from a remote location, then it appears as though the ddns service in the Alnet software is updating your IP address properly...and that the ports 9000 and 9001 are getting through...because these are the ports that carry the video.  It appears that the problem is actually the fact that the ISP is intercepting traffic on port 80 with their router.

There is a way around this.  Go into Configuration --> Network settings in the Alnet software, then click on the HTTP tab.  On this tab, there is a setting for port.  Change the port from 80 (default) to 82.  Then click ok and once at the main screen go to Configuration --> Save Configuration and then restart the Alnet software.

Now that we have changed the port for the HTTP (Web page remote viewing), you will need to next forward port 82 through your router to point at the Alnet PC's IP Address (instead of port 80).

Finally, you will now need to connect to your xxxx.vdr-s.com address with an added ':82' after the .com.  So the address would look like http://xxxx.vdr-s.com:82   This new address uses the new port 82 instead of the standard port 80.

For additional readers: This is useful for other types of internet connection that block port 80 traffic as well.

Re: I get a site called mikrotik

Sorry to be a pain, but I did above except not sure how to do "Now that we have changed the port for the HTTP (Web page remote viewing), you will need to next forward port 82 through your router to point at the Alnet PC's IP Address (instead of port 80)." portion. I can access my dlink router okay, just don't see where I can forward port 82??

Again to clarify an earlier post, when I accessed my alnet server using alnet client, I didn't do this from outside my own wifi network but from another computer on my wifi using the local ip (default gateway shown from ipconfig on the alnet server computer).

Re: I get a site called mikrotik

To add further, other than not knowing how to forward port 82 per your instructions, doing everything else, I don't get the microtik page but just "Cannot find server" web page not found.

Re: I get a site called mikrotik

Dan,

The port forwarding MUST be done inside your router before you can access anything from the outside.  Considering you have a D-Link router, you may have 2 different routers (one provided by your ISP and the other your D-Link) as many modems have routers built into them.

Because every router is entirely different, as is every network, a precise instruction on how to forward the ports on your particular router would not be possible.  However keep the following in mind:

1.  You must port forward through every router.

2.  You will know when you reach the outer-most router if you find that the external IP address of the router is the same as the IP address that you receive when you go to http://whatismyip.com

3.  Port forwarding may also be called 'virtual servers' or 'pinholes' in many routers.

4.  When forwarding a port, you need to forward the Port and protocol to point at the internal IP address of the PC or the next router in the chain.

5.  Alnet will require ports 9000 and 9001 (TCP and UDP protocols); and port 80 (or in this case 82) for TCP protocol.

Beyond that, you might consult the manual for your router and/or modem as well as http://portforward.com/ because they have many sets of instructions for specific routers.

Thank you
