Setting VDR-S for PTZ-2000-10 camera

I have no control of the camera using VDR-S_AV_RT4/100.0.0.359 The factory defaults for the camera are - Protcol: Factory, Address:006 Comm: 2400,N,8,1.The dome settings under the CAMERAS menu has setting for the Address (set at 6), Port (set for COM1) and Protocol (there are 3 PELCO "D" settings, I tried them all). I also tried configuring COM1 in device manager to match the camera.

Re: Setting VDR-S for PTZ-2000-10 camera

Jim,

It appears that you are using the CONEXT0404 card for connecting to the PTZ Camera, so first concern would be that you are connecting the camera correctly.

Physical Connections:

  1.  Make sure that the Serial Port to RJ-11 adapter (phone cord) is plugged from the serial port on the PC into the CONEXT card
  2. Next use the 4-Wire connection from the CONEXT0404 card , and you will need to splice the 2 control wires from the camera into the middle 2 wires of this plug.  Polarity is important, but wont harm the camera if it is reversed...just will not control.
  3. Finally, make sure the other end of the cable is plugged into the RS-485 inputs of the camera.

Software Settings:

  1. In the Alnet software, go to the Configuration --> Camera Settings and then click on the camera.  Click the Dome tab and then click on the 'Enable' button so it is highlighted.  Select COM1 (if that is your com port) and then for the protocol, select the 1st PELCO-D on the list and enter the address as your camera address 6.
  2. Click on 'Close' to close the camera settings and then go to Configuration --> Save Configuration
  3. Exit the Alnet software and open it back up to apply the settings
  4. Power OFF the PTZ-2000-10 camera and power it back on so that it will auto-sense the protocol and baud rate
  5. Click on the camera to select it and click the up down left right keys on the keyboard to see if control has been established...if it moves then you are good
    1. If it does not start controlling, then reverse the polarity of the wires connecting from the camera to the 2 middle wires of the CONEXT0404 - these are signal wires, so you can disconnect and reconnect with the system running without damaging the camera or CONEXT card.

Thank you

Re: Setting VDR-S for PTZ-2000-10 camera

Once again, thanks for the quick response.

I had the correct wiring, though I hadn't saved the configuration. My problem, it turns out, was my serial port. My motherboard had a serial header but no cable. So I used one that was laying around. Turns out, there are two serial/header pinouts and I was using the wrong type of cable. After rewiring the serial connector everything worked. If anyone else thinks they might have this problem, google "serial loopback test" or check your port with a known "good" device.

Thanks for your help.
