Latetly I have been getting frequent message (console): MediaFileManager1::GetEmptyFile() Failed - NewFile(pframe)8.
In summary, something is keeping me from recording. I need to do frequent Archive Repairs to correct. I have plenty of disk space.
Also - is there a way to self notify (via email), that such an event has taken place so that I can correct and have recordings.
Thanks in advance.
The error message that you are experiencing is a message stating that the software is having a hard time accessing a file in the archive of your server. This can be caused by several different harware or software issues.
1. Physical hard drive issues - Check in the Event Log of Windows under System and look for any Warnings or Errors referencing a Disc Error or buffer under-run on the hard disc. Either of these issues can cause the error message referenced, and will generally stop the system from recording. It will also require rebuild of the archive to temporarily bring recording back up again...but will have the same error when it gets to the same or another file that is corrupt from the hard drive error. You can also download a diagnostic tool from the manufacturer of your hard drive, that will run basic and extended tests on the drive to help identify any physical or other issues with the hard drive itself. Visit the hard drive manufacturer's website for this diagnostic software.
2. Anti-Virus Conflict issues - If you have an anti-virus program that is conducting ACTIVE scanning on files as they are accessed, or a general antivirus sweep which might lock a file while it is recording...then archive corruption and general error messages liek the one that you mentioned from the console can be caused. Active file scanning can cause a problem with DVR software, because the AV program will lock and hold a file, not allowing a program to access it, while it scans the file for viruses, and will do this any time any file is accessed on your PC. So if you are running this type of program, make sure to either disable the active file scanning, or provide exceptions for the folder that you use for storing your video files. Scheduled scans can have this same affect if it is scanning while your system is running.
3. IDE, SATA or RAID failure or RAM corruption - Any of these hardware issues can cause corruption of data as it is being written to the hard drive. If you are experiencing corruption but your hard drive is not showing physical damage, then it is recommended to check all of these items, as they can produce similar symptoms.
4. Incomplete software upgrade process - if you have recently upgraded your software, then there may have been an issue with the upgrade of the archive itself. You can try downloading the latest version of the Alnet server software and upgrading your software again. If there is not any important video in your archive, then it would be recommended to delete the old corrupt archive and create a new archive location. When doing this, it is recommended to select an archive that will preallocate space...and ensure that you leave at least 10 GB of free space on the archive hard drive for windows to play with.

Jorge,
You can set up system emails by going in the alnet software to the configuration and scheduler settings.
Thank you
