This DVR-26416S 16-Channel H.264 Internet Viewable Standalone DVR is great for home or business security camera systems where high quality digital video recording and remote viewing capabilities are needed. This embedded linux standalone DVR will record and display from 16 cameras and 4 Audio Channels simultaneously, permitting you to record from all 16 cameras at once with continuous or motion detection style recording onto an internal hard drive (optional hard drive sizes above). Base DVR-26416S Standalone DVR does not include hard drive, as many people prefer to install their own hard drives. This Standalone DVR will accept any standard SATA hard drive, or you can have us install a hard drive for you, so that it is ready to go when it ships.
The H.264 codec built-in to this Standalone DVR provides better quality recording while taking up less space on the hard drive. This permits for longer recording times with smaller hard drives. The H.264 codec performs better than MPEG-4 and M-JPEG compression formats with improved file size, better internet framerate and improved picture quality. Up to 2 hard drives and 1 DVD-RW drive can be installed. External USB DVD-RW drives can also be used with this unit for direct CD or DVD burning (hard drives and DVD-RW drives optional).
This H.264 Standalone DVR features an embedded Linux operating system for great reliability and advanced remote viewing and backup features over basic standalone DVRs on the market. This Standalone DVR features the ability to back up video over the internet, onto a CD or DVD by plugging in a USB CDRW or DVDRW drive, or even onto a USB flash drive so that you can play the video back on your PC using the included playback software.
The DVR-26416S H.264 16-Camera Standalone DVR has advanced remote viewing capabilities often found only on PC-Based DVRs. With multi-user access and multi-location capabilities, you can view multiple locations simultaneously. This allows you to install multiple DVR-2644S, DVR-2649S or DVR-26416S Standalone DVRs and connect to all of the units to view all of your cameras at once. The built-in XHTML PDA Phone remote viewing even allows you to watch your cameras from this standalone DVR right on your cell phone while away. No other standalone DVR offers this great feature.

easy to use, great dvd
Comments:
I really like this DVr. With 2 TB hard drives installed, I can get months of video from my cameras. at first, i thought the picture quality was bad, but when i plugged in a monitor to the VGA connector, it looked much better. So my advice, make sure you use the VGA not the RCA - if you dont know what this is, make sure to watch the dvd video they included. by the way, I will only buy from platinum from now on, that dvd was awesome and really explained everything I needed to know about the DVR.
